On the morning of March 15, the establishing ceremony of the Class for Inter-disciplinary Talent in Law and Journalism and the Class for Excellent Journalist Talent, jointly founded by the School of Journalism and Communication and the School of Economic Law, was held at the He Wei Memorial Hall in the Zhizhi Building.
President Yang Zongke, together with faculty members, tutors and students selected for the two Classes, attended the ceremony.
Sun Jiang, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, introduced the origin and plan of the Class for Inter-disciplinary Talent in Law and Journalism and the Class for Excellent Journalist Talent. He mentioned that the original intention was to improve students’ practical ability and broaden their international horizon for the purpose of training new compound talent by educating the best students with the best teachers. It is hoped that through the summer camp, we could strengthen exchanges and cooperation with universities in all countries along the Belt and Road. Students shall develop an international vision, and strive to grow into outstanding talents of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
President Yang Zongke unveiled the plaques and delivered a speech. He put forward his “praise, hope and requirements” for the innovative classes. Yang praised the two schools for their courage to take the first step to achieve the goal of “undergraduate-oriented and down-to-earth education” and for the successful establishment of the classes. He raised hopes that the two schools can formulate scientific training programs and devote their efforts to the training of new compound talent in the new era. Moreover, he laid down requirements for the Educational Administration and the Education and Work Department of the Party Committee, as well as other functional departments to provide their best service for and give full support to the classes. Finally, Yang Zongke wished the two classes to be a successful model of innovative reform as being “ambitious and conscientious, and committed to innovation and excellence”.
It is planned that the two classes will offer international courses, and invite theoretical and practical experts in law and journalism both inside and outside the university to lecture students and guide them in practice. A series of international summer camps and domestic visits and exchanges will also be organized during the summer vacation.
