Vice President Shan Wenhua Meets with Mr. Philip Hackett KC and His Delegation

On July 13th, Shan Wenhua, Vice President of Northwest University of Political Science and Law, met with Mr. Philip Hackett KC, Chairman of the Geneva International Dispute Resolution Institute, Chen Qing, Partner at Beijing Dacheng Law Offices, LLP (Xi’an), and other guests at Chang’an Campus. The head of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation attended the meeting.

Shan Wenhua welcomed the visit of Mr. Philip Hackett KC and his delegation. He noted that, as a leading institution for legal education in northwest China, Northwest University of Political Science and Law attaches great importance to research and talent cultivation in foreign-related rule of law. He expressed the hope that Hackett’s cutting-edge experience in international legal practice would help further enrich the university’s teaching and research resources, broaden the international perspectives of its faculty and students, and advance the cultivation of interdisciplinary professionals in foreign-related rule of law.

Hackett expressed his gratitude for the university’s warm hospitality. He noted that, having practiced in international arbitration and dispute resolution for many years, he was willing to draw on his front-line professional experience to support the university’s teaching and research in related fields and contribute to the cultivation of foreign-related legal professionals with a strong command of English and American law.

    Mr. Philip Hackett KC delivered a lecture entitled “Mediation as an Alternative to Arbitration: for Chinese Companies Trading Internationally.” He provided a systematic overview of the feasibility and advantages of mediation as a pre-arbitration procedure. Faculty and students from the law schools, together with representatives from the Foreign-Related Rule of Law Division of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Justice, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shaanxi Sub-Council, Xi’an Arbitration Commission, Shaanxi Zhenghe Commercial Mediation Center, Beijing Dacheng Law Offices, LLP (Xi’an), and other institutions, attended the lecture.
