Vice President Shan Wenhua Meets with Delegation from the School of Law, University of Leeds

On April 2nd, Vice President Shan Wenhua met with a delegation from the School of Law of the University of Leeds, including Zhou Qi, Director of International Affairs, and Chen Kun, China Market Advisor. The two sides exchanged views on deepening inter-university communication and advancing program cooperation. Representatives of International Exchange and Cooperation Office were present.

Shan Wenhua extended a warm welcome to the delegation and spoke highly of the positive outcomes achieved through cooperation between the two universities. He stated that Northwest University of Political Science and Law has consistently attached great importance to its partnership with the University of Leeds and expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further consolidate the foundation of exchanges and expand collaboration. He also emphasized exploring new cooperation mechanisms in academic research, talent cultivation, and resource sharing. Both sides hoped to carry out pragmatic cooperation in advancing innovation in legal education and in cultivating professionals with expertise in foreign-related rule of law, thereby jointly promoting the high-quality development of legal education and enhancing the capacity to contribute to global governance.

Zhou Qi stated that the School of Law looked forward to further expanding the cooperation. The School has established scholarships and continues to improve its support services, aiming to provide comprehensive support for the cultivation of high-quality professionals in foreign-related rule of law and to create broader platforms for academic exchange and development for faculty and students.

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on key issues such as the optimization and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate law programs. They also held thorough discussions in cooperation including faculty and student exchanges, joint academic conferences, and collaborative research projects.

After the meeting, Zhou Qi delivered a lecture for faculty and students with the title of “The Principle of Illegality in English Law: From Certainty to Justice.” He also provided a detailed introduction to the LL.M. program at the University of Leeds, including its structure and application procedures.

The University of Leeds is a prestigious public comprehensive research university, a founding member of the UK’s Russell Group, and one of the Red Brick University. It is ranked 86th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. Our university has established cooperative LL.M. programs with the University of Leeds, offering various programs, including integrated bachelor’s–master’s tracks (3+1 and 4+1) as well as dual master’s programs (1+1+1 and 2+1). Students admitted are eligible for a scholarship covering 20% of tuition fees.
